My mama came to help us with moving in part two. We’ve been here a month and things are finding their places. Or getting tossed. Be functional… or so awesome you can justify your space in my cozy little nest… or get the hell out of my house. The clunky old table 300 pound table is gone. Mama got us a brand new, astonishingly white, shiny, and bright kitchen table. We’ll see how long that lasts, and until then it will be the backdrop to my lunchtime ramblings. Mama also left some homemade potato and leek soup.
If my mom didn’t leave any soup in your fridge, see if there’s a can, or jar, or pot of soup anywhere nearby. Add some garlic croutons, finely chopped chives, and fresh ground black pepper. They pretty much go with everything. Sit down at a new table and enjoy the view. And of course the soup.

When preparing food, I am of course always hoping it will be delicious, but sometimes, something happens and you surpass those hopes and make the best, dish, ever. We made wonton soup last night, for the first time. Our wontons were unorthodox, and our recipe was made up, but someone must have spilled a bit of magic into the pot because it was amazing.
I chopped up some leftover pork tenderloin, baby shrimp, and ginger, mixed it with an egg, a dash of Bragg’s soy sauce and some rice vinegar. We wrapped spoonfuls of this mixture in wonton wrappers and dropped them into a pot of boiling chicken stock, along with chopped bok choy, green onions, and carrots. All the way through dinner I was hoping there would be some soup leftover for lunch. My dream came true.

Had a sick kid home with me today. I got two episodes of Pink Panther’s worth of work done. Oh well, I brushed up on my hot glueing and bracelet making anyway!
I thought I’d warm up my feverish boy’s chills with a bowl of hearty veggie soup (out of a jar), slices of extra old cheddar, and GF Romano bean bread toast slathered in butter. I quite enjoyed my lunch, but the three-year-old requested some slight modifications… specifically, more cream cheese, on everything.
