It is the fault of the cold weather. I have difficulty eating fresh vegetables when the ridiculously cold weather screams “Hibernate! Stuff your cheeks with calorie-packed goodness and go to sleep! I’ll wake you when it warms up.”. I listen to these histrionics all too easily, and then find myself deprived and craving greens.
Fill a large bowl with a bag of rocket, Â shredded carrot, quartered cherry tomatoes and diced avocado. If it’s really cold out, add some goat cheese so you don’t starve while tucked under the blankets waiting for spring.

What can I say… I am not a vegetarian. Was. But not now. Right now, I like flesh. And I like it rare. Leftover roast beast sandwich.
GF toast, lots of mayo, some hybrid tomatoes (that’s a whole other story), extra old cheddar, rocket, still mostly rare reheated roast beef, and a slathering of Maja’s Honey Mustard. She makes it on Manitoulin Island in small batches. This one has Riesling, honey, and orange rind, and I could see myself eating it by the spoonful. But first, I am going to eat this sandwich.

Leftover rice pasta really really sucks, but it can be made tolerable if you cover it in water, nuke the living crap out of it, then drain it well.
Tomato sauces are not often my pasta topping of choice but I found a new one that has rocket in it! They call it arugula, but I know better. Really really tasty sauce, and a pretty colour too. Good enough to make me forget I was eating crappy reheated rice pasta. Topped with Parmesan shavings.

Rocket, rocket, rocket! Or arugula, if you must, but rocket just sounds like more fun. Years ago, I would accidentally encounter it, buried in mixed greens, but it wasn’t until I spent some time in England and then South Africa, that I discovered it was a green all of its own! And, they call it rocket. How can you beat that?
GF bread as usual, with slices of brie on both pieces, one topped with thinly sliced, very ripe Rocha pear. Add a pile of rocket, close it up, and throw it in the sandwich press. Melted brie, jammy pear and zippy rocket… mmmm.
